Yoga
Yoga develops many wonderful qualities in children. The use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Besides the obvious benefits of exercising the physical body, yoga stimulates their imagination and helps to release energy in a fun, safe environment. Yoga gives children self-confidence and develops self-discipline. Breathing and visualization techniques also teach children how to focus, relax and develop self-control. Yoga, most importantly, helps children become aware of themselves from the inside out. From this awareness, changes and growth in new and positive directions can blossom. Kids Yoga is a fun, creative approach to yoga that can be very helpful for children whose bodies are still developing. Yoga also has been proven to lower stress, reduce anxiety and balance the physical changes in adolescence. As pre- and early teens begin to experience physical, emotional and relational changes, a fun and engaging yoga practice can be the perfect balance to increased stress. Also, as their bodies change and develop, it is important to maintain flexibility in the muscles. Not only does yoga support the skeletal system, but also it fosters a feeling of lightness and adaptability both in the body and the mind – Physical flexibility increases emotional flexibility, which is an important quality for pre- and early teens in their adolescent years.
