Yin Yoga
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin () Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang, ) styles of yoga. Yin yoga is a very distinct style of Chinese yoga that stretches the connective tissue (joints) rather than conditioning the muscles. It is so named because of its correspondence to the Taoist concept of yin. Yin represents feminine, stable, unmoving qualities and Yang represents masculine, moving, active qualities. Most forms of yoga practiced in the western world emphasize yang, focusing on strength and active stretch which is very important. Yin yoga emphasizes letting go of muscle tension in order to target the deeper connective tissues. While yang yoga practices focus on muscle activity, yin yoga is active in awareness. Yin yoga helps you develop a deep knowledge of your own body and mind. Each pose releases connective tissue deep in the joints (ligaments and bone) with breath, long passive stretching, distinguishing different sensations, and works towards meditative states through directing awareness.
